Cave of the Mounds, Blue Mounds, Wisconsin
[Photo taken 14 August 2001] The cave has several patches of broken stalactites, removed during the cave's early years as a public attraction. People were allowed to take them as souvenirs. At the time, the owners didn't realize that stalactites grow at the rate of about 1 inch per hundred years, and wouldn't be replaced in their lifetimes.
