Luray Caverns, Virginia
[Photo taken 13 March 2001] Luray claims to have the largest musical instrument on earth, namely the "Stalacpipe Organ." Basically, the organ controls little hammers throughout the cave which tap various stalactites found to have the proper tones. The sounds are then conveyed back to the organ room via wired microphones. The sound is very soft yet enchanting. This plaque commemorates its inventor.
